CARTER (June 14, 1874–February 13, 1936) was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Among the highlights of Carter's stage performances during his career were the “sawed woman” and the “disappearance of the elephant”. He was also known for crafting inspiring acts after the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.
In 1907 he set off on a world tour that he and his family took to Australia, New Zealand, India, China, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Italy and beyond for three years.
Due to his elaborate live shows, he had to travel everywhere with a large amount of equipment, which at one point reached the weight of 31 tons.
Legend has it that on April 10, 1912 Carter was preparing to return to the United States. That day Carter was late and was unable to board the ship, being left ashore with all his materials and his production team. The ship it was the RMS Titanic.
